Food special,,pork ribs in tomatoe salsa
I ordered the Pambazo which by itself was delicious but the menu says it comes with fried potatoes. Being at a Mexican restaurant, I didn't expect that to be French fries with two ketchup packets. If you're going to serve French fries, serve French fries, but I was expecting a Mexican dish that included fried potatoes and was quite frankly, embarrassed eating them as if I ordered off of the kids menu.
Fairly typical mexican joint. Good food, good portions. Salsa is just ok. Regular is too plain, hot is too spicy. Mix the two and it's about right though.
great authentic Mexican food. Sergio burrito is the best!
We arrived in Charleston five years ago famished and hungry and Carmen Y Juan's was the very first place we turned to. It's become our go-to ever since. Excellent quality Mexican food in a family friendly environment.
Not bad. Just pretty average.
As always, great food, people and atmosphere. Love the new decor!
Service was great but food was only OK and menu choices are somewhat limited. Probably will not be going back.
This place is fantastic. The staff are so attentive, and friendly. I don't have the words for how much my wife, and I love this place. The food is delicious.
Small, cozy restaurant with friendly, relaxed atmosphere
My wife and I joined friends for dinner at this establishment last night. I was born and raised in Southern California and have lived pursuing really tasty Mexican Restaurants nationwide. Carmen Y Juan’s set a high water mark for me last night. Great service, fresh fresh food, delicious flavors, wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Both my wife and I agree on the fact that Carmen Y Juan’s is that good! Highly recommend it!
Small place with decent size bar. Menu had good variety throughout. California burrito was large but was mostly rice, very little chicken. Sergio's burrito was pretty tasty but also small...left hungry. Should never leave a Hispanic restaurant hungry...or thirsty. The beer I ordered would've been great with dinner if I had gotten it.
Really good food and great service. Well worth eating at the place.
Food was not that great, prices were high and service was terrible.
Food was authentic and good. Got there at 8:30 on a Friday night and felt rushed out because they closed 9:00.
Most authentic, friendly and price is good⭐️
Absolutely loaded their tacos with cilantro. Their menu said it came in the side with the taco platter but it came in the tacos. Otherwise the food was pretty good.
Food is always perfect, and servers are really good at their job. Occasionally they have specials that are just wonderful. High marks for Sinaloan authenticity!
So in general I enjoy this place and try to visit as it is a privately owned business. However most recent experience was off putting. I stopped by for a snack as I missed lunch and didn't want to ruin my dinner. I bought a Margarita and large queso with chorizo. However when I went to checkout I realized I was being charged for 3 orders of chips as I didn't buy a full meal and apparently the queso didn't come with chips. I tried to respectfully address this with the owner, but despite the fact I was already paying $17 for a margarita and queso, he still felt it appropriate to charge for 3 orders of chips despite my complaints. If you need to make a profit I get it raise your price on queso to include chips and I understand not wanting to be taken advantage of by people ordering water and eating free complimentary chips and salsa, but this was clearly not me.
If you are looking for excellent Mexican food, look no further. I highly recommend Carmen Y Juan's. Try their in house hot sauce! They are great!!!
Great place. Carmen and Juan are there all the time and run a great family restaurant. He’s always got time to chat! Love the team and the food!
Soooooo, delicious. Everything was great including the homemade chips and salsa.
Truly a hidden gem! Fantastic food. I've eaten at some great Mexican restaurants all around the USA and this is by far the best! Highly recommended!!!
We love Carmen y Juan's. We've liked everything we've eaten, they have an excellent tequila selection, and the servers are friendly. The most unique thing I've ever eaten at a Mexican restaurant is the Wet Tacos (pictured).
The food and service here is excellent. The appetizer (pictured) was one of the most interesting tastes I've ever experienced, and the chips and salsa were very good as well. The taquito entree was quite good, but I'd recommend selecting a meat other than the ground beef, as it was a little bland. Other than that, I really enjoyed eating here and highly recommend this restaurant to others.
Nicest people on planet! Had sergios burrito and it is as legendary as the young man himself was. Try the spicier salsa too. It gets hot but delicious.
The best home style Mexican restaurant in Mount Pleasant, SC! My family and I always love going here not only for the food, but the people too. Such a sweet family and employees!
Delicious food, great service, super friendly owners and the carnitas tacos are life.
The absolute best place to get a great authentic meal! Great family and the absolute best service. Love love love the food there.
I've been here twice. The first time, I had the carnita tacos. They were good for the area. I was excited to bring my husband...but we were both sadly disappointed. He ordered fajitas that were wet, soggy and greasy from added greasy, not a saute or grill. I can't remember the name of my dish, it's in the posted picture. It was extremely inedibly salty and came with French fries 😂 authentic food is hard to get around here...and sometimes it tastes like a punishment. I gave 2 stars because the tacos were good. The salsa and chips are fresh and tasty. The waiter the first time was pleasant. The second time (no they weren't busy) was gruff and didn't check on us to see that I was only picking around the food because I was very hungry. I miss restaurants in King County Was and Coastal California where Mexican food is served with pride...the food here tastes like punishment
I love this place. I find myself craving Carmen y Juan’s almost every day. Have never had a bad experience and the barbacoa is unbelievable. I would chose Carmen y Juan’s over every restaurant in the Charleston area.
Came in and sat at the bar. Wow, super authentic Mexican cuisine! Everything was fresh and tasty! Highly recommend!
Simply best authentic Mexican food in Mt.P area. Service is phenomenal whether at a tbl w/ friends or by ur self at the bar. CRUSHES La Hacienda! Barbacao n Fish Tacos r incredible!
More authentic then your room b of the mill Mexican restaurant. Good margs. Reasonable prices!
Carmen y Juan is such an amazing place to eat! It is authentic Mexican food and Carmen and Juan are there to make sure you are taken care of. The waiters are great too. They all remember you and even what you order! This is the best Mexican restaurant in Mount Pleasant!
Delicious food!! This is a local gem! Sort of like a hidden secret! The food is phenomenal at this establishment. Hand made chips- trust and believe there is a big difference in the taste. Everything is fresh made to order. If you want some true Mexican food, make a trip to Carmen Y Juan’s! They have won awards for their food as well! No surprise there though. It’s amazing!
The food is authentic and always fresh Jenny is a terrific server so pleasant. All the staff are great. And Carmen and Juan are two beautiful people
The best restaurant we ate at in the Charleston area while on vacation. Very good service and food.
Food wasn't particularly authentic tasting but it wasn't bad. The service was decent. Location is good for folks in Dunes West.
I really enjoyed dining at this place. The owner, Juan, came out and brought our drinks and we had a good talk about where he was from and how the restaurant came to be. The food was great! The tacos had great flavor and the fried stuffed jalapenos were awesome, but be warned, they pack a punch! Try the hibiscus margarita. Actually try any of the margaritas. After a hot day walking around Old Village, the drinks left little to be desired. Even the free chips and salsa were delicious. It seems that they make their own chips, which to me, gives then a distinct advantage over your regular old Tex Mex place that one seems to frequently come across in the lowcountry. The food is pretty authentic but the salsas that come with the food were the only thing that I wanted more from. I'm used to having at least two homemade traditional salsas with some kick, but it could be that that stuff doesn't add much value considering the area.
I can't say enough about this place. Food was excellent. Had the best taste well-seasoned and service was excellent. Very clean restaurant very friendly owners
Amazing people and amazing food. Local, mom n pop and family. Food is great- fresh ingredients made with care and it shows and also tastes as such. The street taco platter is our favorite dish. The sauces and salsa are so fresh and flavorful. I cannot say enough good comments about this restaurant- 🙂
The food here was delicious! The cheese sauce is incredible, as is the salsa! Their fresh chips are amazing. I got the rice bowl with guacamole and shrimp and I definitely loved it. The service was great and the food came out really quickly, especially considering there were five of us. We all loved our food and recommend it highly!
Very.nice atmosphere. The closest to homemade Mexican food. We ordered carnitas. They were really good. Highly recommended. The new decor is very nice.
Service wasn't that great. Ordered to cheese dips and had to go up twice to get more chips. Had to ask for water and the food was just so-so. Wouldn't go there again
Had chicken tamales for lunch and they were yum. Four stars because, of course, I didn't sample the whole menu. My friends were extremely happy with their food. The server was outstanding but it wasn't busy so I can't say how well we would have been served during a busy period. She was so outstanding, in fact, that we mused that she might be the owner or co-owner. I would go back in a heartbeat.
The food was ok but great service
A little out of the way for all the Charlestonians but definitely worth your time! A refreshing margarita and an order of their amazing street tacos is all you need! Don't forget to try the fantastic chorizo or there fabulous homemade corn tortillas! Worth more than just one visit!
Best authentic Mexican food in Charleston! I've tried over a dozen in the area and nothing comes close to the food here. Owners are great!
Really great place. Food is great, service was fantastic. We came in with a big group a little before they close the kitchen for lunch. All the food was accurate and tasted great.
great local family love supporting them and the food is fabulous
